North County Library: Sarasota, Florida
The North County Library is a 25,000 square foot branch library for the Sarasota County Library system.
The library serves an ethnically diverse community located in the northern section of Sarasota County. In an effort to attract patrons and encourage a welcome and friendly environment, the facility is designed with a full-height glazed curtain wall system along the southern façade. During the daytime, patrons can look out upon the adjacent heritage oaks trees and field while at night the facility glows internally and serves as a symbolic community beacon.
Todd Sweet served as project architect for the North County Library. His tasks included site selection assistance, programming, organizing Focus Group discussions, conducting public workshops Conceptual Design and Design Development.
From 2000 through 2002 Providence Associates worked with SMRT Architecture in assisting with the planning, development of the building program and review of schematic design. Providence worked collaboratively and in concert with Todd Sweet, now principal with Sweet Sparkman Architects.
The North County Library has received LEED certification through the United States Green Building Council as a Gold rating. Critically acclaimed, the building concentrates on nurturing the integration of community and the arts.
