2168 Main Street: Sarasota, Florida

In 2009, Sweet-Sparkman Architects relocated their offices to an existing 1950’s office building located at 2168 Main Street. The improvements consisted of the demolition to the building interior to allow for an open studio to support the firms method of collaborative design. The exterior walls at the front and rear of the building were demolished and larger openings were made to allow for natural light to penetrate to the interiors. Other improvements included the redistribution of existing HVAC system, new restrooms, and a conference room that includes a cast-in-place concrete wall that starts at the exterior of the building and passes through the front opening. Finishes include the refinishing of the existing terrazzo floors, new 3-form translucent wall panels, sealed Douglas Fir and birch veneer plywood partitions.
