PARKS: Lovers Key, Florida
The Center was designed to showcase and educate visitors about the park’s flora, fauna and diverse ecosystems. A key focus was resilience, assuring the structure could survive the high winds, flooding and other challenges that come with a coastal environment. The building was designed to evoke its surroundings, with columns mimicking the rugged mangrove root systems that protect the barrier island.
“This building is a love story, and it’s meant to teach people to love our natural environment,” Deb Voorhees, capital campaign executive director for the Friends of Lovers Key, told the Fort Myers Beach News. “The architecture is stunning.”
