The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Center for Asian Art

LIBRARIES / CULTURAL: Sarasota, Florida

This addition and renovation project converted approximately 18,000 SF of existing gallery space from temporary exhibition areas to permanent galleries for Ringling’s extensive collection of Asian art. Its façade is composed of deep-green, glazed terra cotta tiles, creating a grand entry point that evokes the detailing of Ringling’s Cà d’Zan mansion. Sweet Sparkman served as local consultants to the Boston architecture firm Machado Silvetti on this project.

“We wanted this building to be something unique in the world and a work of art,” Dr. Stephen High, the Ringling’s executive director, told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. “We area collection of art objects, and our buildings should reflect that.”
